Hamlet Hakobyan (1923-2013)

1923 – Born in Alexandria, Egypt.

1943 – Moved to Cairo.

1943-1947 – Attended Cairo Academy of Fine Arts as an auditor.

1944 onwards – Participated in numerous group exhibitions and biennials.

1952-1954 – Studied at the Grand Chaumière Academy in Paris.

1953 – Awarded the second prize at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Bucharest.

1954-1961 – Worked as an interior painter and decorator in Cairo.

1961 – Donated his works to the Armenian State Gallery.

1962 onwards – Resided in Armenia (Leninakan).

1963-1967 – Served as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR.

1965 – Moved to Yerevan.

1967 – Received the first prize at the Republican Exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the October Socialist Revolution.

1970 – Awarded a bronze medal at the All-Union Exhibition.

1970 – Honored with the title of Honored Artist of the Armenian SSR.

1977 – Received the State Prize of the Armenian SSR and the title of People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR.

Individual exhibitions were held in Estonia, Georgia, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Paris, and elsewhere.

2003 – Retrospective solo exhibition dedicated to his 80th birthday (Union of Artists of Armenia, Yerevan).

Awards: Received the “Sahak Parthev” and “Mesrop Mashtots” medals from the Catholicos of All Armenians.

2006 – Solo exhibitions in Los Angeles and Minsk.

2007 – Solo exhibition in Marseille.

2009 – Solo exhibition dedicated to his 85th birthday (Union of Artists of Armenia, Yerevan).

2013 – Passed away in Yerevan.

His works are held in the Contemporary Art Museum (Yerevan), the National Gallery of Armenia, the Museum of the Peoples of the East (Moscow), and many private collections in Armenia and abroad.
