AKHSAR MURIEV – MAGNIFIQUE VOYAGE, ou L’HISTOIRE D’UN HOMME

The Modern Art Museum of Yerevan and Anton Levahin present a SOLO EXHIBITION OF AKHSAR MURIEV, “MAGNIFIQUE VOYAGE, ou L’HISTOIRE D’UN HOMME” This exhibition marks the first time Muriev’s artworks will be displayed in Armenia, running from September 6 to October 27, 2024.

The exhibition offers a visual narrative of the creative journey of a lyrical hero, depicted in paintings, and reveals the artist’s unique interpretation of his travels, which shape his personal story. The use of French in the exhibition title connects Muriev’s works with Marcel Proust’s reflections in “À la recherche du temps perdu” underscoringthe nostalgic tone and philosophical depth of the exhibition.

The Modern Art Museum of Yerevan (MAMY) will showcase Muriev’s paintings created in 2023-2024, including large scale canvases and triptychs such as “Magnifique Voyage”, “Sunny Dance”, “Gruppo di Famiglia in un Interno”, and “Dynamic Composition in Three Parts”.

These artworks are unified into a cohesive concept within the exhibition space, where their imagery and reflections engage in a vibrant dialogue, creating a mesmerizing synergy.

The exhibition is curated by Anton Levahin, who has previously collaborated with the Modern Art Museum of Yerevan on various cultural projects. Levahin and his company, A&A Worldwide, partnered with the National Pavilion of the Republic of Armenia at the 60th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art.

AKHSAR MURIEV
Born in Vladikavkaz, Akhsar Muriev received a degree in fine arts from the Institute of Fashion and Design. In 2004, he began his career in the fashion industry. Shortly thereafter, Luciano Benetton, the founder of the Benetton Group and a renowned Italian art connoisseur, recognized his talent. In 2013, Muriev began collaborating with Anton Levahin, participating in cultural projects on the international art scene.

Muriev is also actively engaged in teaching, sharing his vision and experience with young talents through academic courses on graphics, design, and composition. In 2017, while studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, he also participated in excavations at the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. In Italy, Muriev studied religious painting and the art of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, with a particular focus on the cultural heritage of the early Christian church. He developed various techniques to create new works of art.

AKHSAR MURIEV’S ARTISTIC STYLE
Akhsar Muriev’s pictorial language is distinctive and easily recognizable. Expressive, dense, and dynamic, his manner of painting, combined with bold color choices, makes his artworks instantly identifiable. His use of color contrasts forms within the optical space of the canvas, imbuing them with deep emotional energy. Muriev’s method, approaching abstraction, liberates form, drawing attention through its simplicity and expressiveness. This, in turn, encourages thoughtful engagement with the painting and immersion in its imagery, revealing his artistic concepts.

ANTON LEVAHIN
Anton Levahin graduated with a degree in law from Kazan State University. After gaining extensive experience in international finance, he founded A&A Worldwide and then decided to return to his true passion — art. In 2015, Levahin’s artworks were featured in the retrospective exhibition of Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Levahin has also produced numerous music programs, founded international festivals, and created TV projects dedicated to classical music and fine arts. On the Historical Stage of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, a production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera “Don Giovanni ossia Il Dissoluto punito” was presented under Levahin’s artistic direction.

He has collaborated with leading artists and international institutions for many years, presenting exhibition projects at prestigious events such as the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art.
