In the rich realm of contemporary Armenian sculpture, Alexei Papoyan holds a distinctive place. Through the use of dual meanings in sculptural language, metaphorical, allegorical, and grotesque techniques, he is able to reconstitute the profound essence of the human and animal worlds, revealing the contradictions between good and evil and finding their plastic parallels and symbols. This is not a narrative or descriptive language but a condensed mass of artistic means based on the real images of humans and animals.
The sculptor’s artistic interests are very broad. Humor and the grotesque, the perpetual clashes of good and evil, the absurdity of life and the meaning of existence—these are the issues that have concerned him throughout his creative life.
The exhibition will be open from March 7 to March 26, inclusive.
Narine Arakelyan invites you on an extraordinary journey with her solo exhibition, “The Metamorphosis of Aphrodite’s Stones.” This story blends nature, mythology, and digital innovation, creating an intriguing art project that also engages with tradition.
At the heart of this exhibition is a deep allegory that links history with contemporary reality. Arakelyan has drawn inspiration for this series from the legend of “Aphrodite’s Stone,” which is firmly rooted in Greek mythology. Was this the place where Aphrodite bathed after her meetings with Hephaestus, or where she met her beloved Adonis?
The central feature of the exhibition is a captivating performance filmed in “Aphrodite’s Stone,” where Narine herself enters the depths of the sea and emerges reborn. This artistic act transcends time, connecting the past and the present, and serves as a symbol of metamorphosis, both for the artist and for life in general.
The stones sanctified by the Aphrodite legend become tangible relics of nature. For the artist, they serve as a renewable resource and a canvas to explore the intersection of art and technology. These stones embody her vision— a fusion of the natural world and the digital realm, and a tribute to the harmony of myth and modernity.
Narine Arakelyan’s creative path involves a social commentary and exploration of gender identity. Through performance, installation, painting, sculpture, video art, and environmental art, she gives voice to social justice.
“The Metamorphosis of Aphrodite’s Stones” challenges our perceptions, inviting us to reflect on the enduring power of myth, the limitless potential of technology, and the transformative nature of art.

The Contemporary Art Museum invites you to attend the opening of the solo exhibition by musician and artist Haik Grigoryan on October 21, 2023, at 3:00 PM. The event will take place in the museum’s temporary exhibition hall.
The exhibition will feature works from the artist’s series “Faces/Sides,” “Green Thoughts,” and “The Language of the Body,” showcasing his genre transitions and transformations.
The exhibition will be open until October 27, 2023.
Haik Grigoryan: Musician, Artist
Born in Yerevan in 1983, he graduated from Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory in 2004. He worked with the State Radio and Television Orchestra of Armenia from 1999 to 2011, and from 2011 to 2020, he lived and worked in Moscow with Igor Butman’s jazz band. He has also performed in Moscow’s Esse, Kozlov, and Butman clubs, as well as New York’s Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club, and Coca-Cola clubs.
Since 2020, he has also been active as a visual artist. His works have been exhibited in Moscow, Yerevan (Artists’ Union), and Kapan, at the Contemporary Art Museum’s “Transformation” exhibition.
Mireille Gogikian is a Lebanese artist who graduated from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA) in 1988. Her meteoric career was established early on, earning numerous prestigious awards and distinctions. Benefiting from a scholarship in Italy and subsequent further training, followed by five active years in Paris and stable employment coupled with exceptional creative zeal, Mireille Gogikian has become a renowned artist marked by her brushstrokes.
She has participated in 50 international exhibitions in cities such as Tokyo, London, Paris, Italy, Seoul, Geneva, Syria, and Qatar, and has held 16 solo exhibitions. Notable among these are “Beyond the Dream” (2015, 2017), “Chronological Whispers” (2019), “Fragments of Beirut”, and “The Soul’s Journey” (2022), among others. Her works are included in various collections, both private and public, and are displayed in numerous cultural foundations and museums.
Alongside her artistic career, Mireille Gogikian has always aspired to share her talent through educational endeavors. For the Florence XIII Biennale, Mireille Gogikian was selected as a participating artist to exhibit seven paintings from the “Fragments of Beirut” series, for which she received the Jury’s Selective Award. In 2021, she won the Caravaggio Award in Milan, and in November 2022, she was honored with the Barcelona International Award.
“WOMAN AND IDENTITIES” features photographic works by a young female artist focused on issues of identity. These research-creative works are captured within the ecofeminism movement. They address the challenging and harsh themes of intergenerational trauma passed down from ancestors, patriarchal societal norms, diaspora Armenian identity, Armenian identity, impossible norms imposed by religion, violence against women, particularly violence against women’s bodies.
These complex issues are translated into works that combine simplicity, symbolism, and gentleness. With universal intentions, these artworks disturb and do not leave us indifferent. Indeed, they challenge patriarchal societal norms and firmly demand the restoration of the right to speak. They move us with their intense emotions and somehow connect with all of us in our personal struggles for identity—as women, Armenians, artists, or simply as human beings.

The Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra, in collaboration with the Contemporary Art Museum of Yerevan, is presenting a unique exhibition.
From May to July 2023, works by renowned Armenian artists Minas Avetisyan and Ashot Hovhannisyan will be displayed in the two foyers of the “Arno Babajanyan” Concert Hall.
The exhibition includes both famous and previously unpublished works from the Contemporary Art Museum of Yerevan’s collection.
The exhibition is open from May 21 to July 21, daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
